Japanese “Fast Food” – Mixed Sandwich

This a meal hubby put together using a sandwich consisting of egg salad, ham and cheese, and iceberg lettuce as the entrée. To accompany the sandwich hubby used red-pepper potato chips, dill pickles, cherry tomatoes, and cream of mushroom soup.

This small bento from a local grocery store had rice, goya (bitter melon) chanpuru, chicken, and pickled ginger root.

As a side dish to the goya chanpuru bento, hubby ate this Japanese “Fast Food” – Mozuku (a slightly slimy type of seaweed in a lemony-vinegar flavored juice).

Japanese “Fast Food” – Bento#19

This local convenience store version of bento consisted of spaghetti, deep-fried shrimp with tartar sauce, hamburger, deep-fried chicken, a thin slice of pork, potato salad, corn niblets, and rice with toasted sesame seeds.

Japanese “Fast Food” – Tenpura

This local vendor’s version of tenpura is a thick-batter deep-fried selection of fish, squid, string beans, and assorted vegetable mix.

To accompany the tenpura, we selected miso soup, rice with seaweed mini-wraps dipped in soy sauce, and a small salad of Hubby’s homegrown greens with cherry tomatoes, herbed croutons, and cracked taosted seasame seeds topped with a creamy Italian dressing.

Japanese “Fast Food”- Mini-Croissant

Although most people would not think of a croissant as a snack item, this particular type of the pastry being sold by a local convenience store chain is small (about 3 inches by 1.5 inches) and extremely flavorful. It can be eaten on its own or filled with some on-the-go ingredients.
