Japanese “Fast Food” – Hot ‘n Spicy Senbei

It comes as no surprise that someone came up with a more flavorful version of the traditional senbei rice cracker. Various versions of red chilli pepper sauces can be found throughout the island and probably in mainland Japan as well.

Outie Food☆ – Tonkatsu Curry Rice

This delish dish was found at a new roadside cafe (Bravo) off of Hwy 330 in Urasoe. The casual and relaxing semi-outdoor cafe just opened three months ago. This chunky, mildly-spiced with a slight fruity flavor curry contained potato, carrot, onion, and beef chunks served with a karage-style tonkatsu with rice and a pickled veggie is only one of the selections available. Accompanying the entrée was a good-sized salad of iceberg lettuce, grated cabbage and carrot, sliced cucumber and tomato with a choice of four salad dressings and optional mini-croutons. Completing the very reasonably-priced “lunch set” was a soft drink.
